Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day today, and remember that we are celebrating the historical and spiritual event that took place about a year after the Pilgrims came to America. They gathered with their friends, the Indians (Native Americans), to thank God for the bounty He had given them and for getting them through their first year in the New World.

Let us also remember that we cannot change history to fit our modern day political agenda. There was no such thing as "political correctness" when these events occured. In fact, that is partially what the Pilgrims were trying to get away from.

Barbara Rainey has a great book out called Thanksgiving: A Time to Remember. I bought this book back while I was teaching, and it gives two ways to read the book so that it can be age appropriate for your family. You can either read the entire book through over several days with your famly if you have older children or yau can read only the large print for families with younger children (condensing the book greatly). A CD featuring hymns of praise, thanks, and traditional Thanksgiving songs is also included in the book.
