I Love You More

It took Brian two days to tell me he loved me for the first time. It began on our way to MOSI (the Museum of Science and Industry) in Tampa. We were stopped at a light, and we saw a gentleman selling roses at the corner we were at. Brian rolled down his window, called the man over, and went digging through the huge pile of flowers in order to find the right one. The light turned green, I was handed a red rose, and we were off. Brian turned to me and asked if I knew what a red rose meant. Honestly, I knew what it meant, but I didn't let him know that. I just asked, "What does it mean?"

Brian replied, "It stands for love. Is it hot in here or is it just me?"

"I'm fine," I said, and that was the end of the conversation.

The next night, we were on the lanai (back porch for non-Floridians) reading one of our many books, when Brian decided to approach the subject again.

"I'm just going to come out and say it," he started. "Suzette, I love you."

"I love you, too, Brian."

And so began the "I love you's" between us.

As we continued exchanging our "I love you's", I tried explaining to Brian that I loved him more than he could possibly love me. He, of course, would not be easily convinced and tried explaining to me that he loved me more (not possible!).

We began saying, "I love you more!"

And then one day as we were driving, we heard this song from Matthew West. The song is spoken from God to His creation, but the chorus begins with "I love you more"! From that point on, everytime we drove and that song came on, we would blast the volume when the chorus came up.

We have continued with that phrase with each other, but we have included Addie in the sharing of it. After we tell her, "I love you," she responds with, "I love day." Of course, we have to explain to her that we love her more. We then say "I love you, more" to which she responds with, "I love day, moh."

As Faye and Jim would say I love you to each other, I began hearing Faye end her conversations with "I love you more!", and it reminded me of "our" song. I hope you enjoy this video and realize that no matter how much you love the ones in your life, God loves them more.
