Life Lessons from Biblical Characters: Abram

Then he believed in the Lord and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. Genesis 14:6

This is today's key verse.

The background to it is very simple. After last week's verse where God told Abram that He would be his reward, Abram asked God what He was going to give him since he had no heir, and the heir to his house would be Eliezer of Damascus because he was born in Abram's house (possibly a servant).  God told Abram that Eliezer would not be Abram's heir because He was going to give him an heir (a child of his own).  Then God took him outside and had Abram look up to the heavens and told him that not only would he have one heir, but his descendants would be as many as the stars in the sky.

Then he believed in the Lord and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.

In your own life, do you feel that things look bleak and that you need to look elsewhere to fix your circumstances? Has God given you a promise but you cannot see in the natural how it will be fulfilled?

We need to believe in the Lord, in His ability to keep His promises, in His ability to do above and beyond what we can imagine of think.

When we believe in the Lord, it will be reckoned to us as righteousness.

  1. My pastor just talked about this in church on Sunday! Thanks for the reminder to trust God even when things seem impossible by our standards. =)

  2. Great post, and encouragement. It is so easy to try to do things our way, instead of beliving that His way is the best!
