Simplicity: Autumn Clean Out- The Living and Dining Rooms

This week my focus for the Autumn Clean Out was on two thirds of our main room- the living room and dining room.  The following was my list for cleaning.

Living Room
  • Remove all decorations (we have one empty room where Faye used to live that I moved all of my decorations into- I mean all! Removing all of your decorations and putting them together in a separate location makes you feel like you are going shopping in your own home and help)s you view your items in a different light.)
  • Move furniture out of the way (I moved the sofas out of their normal spots to give me open access to the carpet)
  • Spot clean and scrub carpets (my biceps and triceps are killing me!)
  • Vacuum
  • Dust all furniture
  • Clean windows
  • Dust wall photos and pictures
  • Replace all furniture
  • Replace decorations (maybe rearrange a few pieces)
  • Make Dreams to Fulfill list
  1. Add draperies to cornices to finish window treatments
  2. Change throw pillows on the sofas
The Dining Room
  • Remove all decorations
  • Move furniture out of the way
  • Vacuum or sweep the floors
  • Mop the floors
  • Dust all furniture
  • Clean windows
  • Dust wall photos and pictures
  • Replace all furniture
  • Replace decorations (maybe rearrange a few items)
  • Make Dreams to Fulfill list
  1. Add draperies to cornices to finish window treatments
  2. Paint back door brown (to add pop and anchor the room)
I hope your Autumn Clean Out is going along as well as mine is.  Next week we will be looking at the kitchen. Happy cleaning!

  1. It seems my usual Autumn cleaning has been taken over by puppy training.....:-(. Thanks for the inspiration though. I do hope to complete a good bit by Thanksgiving! Glad yours is going well. I'll bet it feels GREAT!
