Life Lessons From Biblical Characters | Abraham and Sarah

It is here!  The day has finally arrived!

In Genesis chapter 12 we first heard God promise to make Abram into a great nation even though he did not have any childen.  And now in chapter 21 (25 years later), Abraham and Sarah receive the promise.

In our world, our time table, our line of thinking, God would always answer us today, 5 minutes ago, or yesterday.  But God's timetable is not like ours.  God does not run on the same time restrictions as we do.

God sees the entire picture.  He sees the faults that we have and the things He needs to sand out of our lives and the rough edges He needs to smooth out before He can fulfill the promise He made.

And fulfill he will!

He waited to fulfill the promise of a child for Abraham and Sarah so that there would be no mistaking that only God could have given them this child.  In verse 7, Sarah says, "Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given shildren suck? for I have born him a son in his old age."  (I love how she considers Abraham old, but not herself! Children do have a way of making you feel young.)

And have you ever noticed that when we have to wait longer than "normal" for something to happen in our lives, the more people rejoice with us?  As Sarah said, "God has made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me."

Are you waiting for something?  We are.  And this is just one of those reminders that God answers His promises in His timing.... and when He does it will be a time of great rejoicing!

  1. I love this. I don't know the end of the story God is writing in our family, but I do know that when we become parents there will be so many other people who will be praising God as well!!
