What Would It Have Been Like...

As I went through an old journal, I found some entries that I had done when doing my own personal study on journaling and putting words together in a thoughtful and meaningful way. I laughed at some entries that described school and some of my experiences with students. However, some were more thoughtful and reflective of how I was feeling and where I was emotionally at the time. This is the entry from April 11, 2003. I hope you enjoy it.

What would it have been like to be Neil Armstrong and take the first step on the moon,
or be one of the Marys who talked to the angel at the tomb?
What would it have been like to be Peter and walk with Jesus on the waves,
or to watch God Almighty create the world in six days?
What would it have been like to ride with Noah on the ark,
or to be a shepherd looking in the sky as the heavenly host shouted "Hark!"?
What would it have been like to see the slaves shout and sing
as they realized they had been freed after more than 400 years of captivity?
What would it have been like to be the only woman around,
or to get all that you needed to survive from the ground?
What would it have been like to be Jephthah's daughter,
to know that you will soon die and never have your own son or daughter?
What would it have been like to be Jochabed and give your beautiful son away,
and see that same son now grown up free you from slavery one day?
What would it have been like to see my Savior bleeding from the stabs of many a thorn,
and to see Him beautifully arrayed on that glorious Easter morn?
What would it have been like to watch my fellow Christians die
as Nero stood closely by with a devilish gleam in his eye?
But what I really want to know is what it would have been like to have been the thief crucified beside my Lord
and to wake up on the other side of death in Paradise to hear Christ say, "Welcome to your reward."

I also want to wish my dad a happy birthday. Unfortunately, 8 years ago his birthday was overshadowed by the tragic events that happened in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C. However, 58 years ago, it was a great day. Happy birthday, Dad.
