About 4 weeks ago, we were invited to the home of some dear friends of ours on a Saturday evening. On our way home, Brian and I talked about how much we loved the connection of other couples and how the best way for us to develop those friendships was through a Sunday School class.
When we arrived home, Brian asked me to go onto our church's website to check out what Sunday school classes were available to our age group. I found one that had just begun the week before for young couples and was perfect for our age range. We decided that if we waited any longer, the birth of Ian would just be one more excuse for us not to join a Sunday school class (or as our church calls it, a Life Group). Because of our experiencce with Addie at VBS, we knew she could handle being in a classroom situation for the full morning.
The next morning, we woke up bright and early, got ourselves dressed and ready, and out the door in time to drop Addie off at her class and to get to our class with plenty of time. There were only two other young couples and our Life Group teachers (a husband and wife team that have married for 44 years- perfect team for teaching young couples). Because the setting was so small and personal, Brian and I loved it! Our teachers are so knowledgeable and truly have hearts for the Lord, but the are so real and down to earth at the same time. The other two couples are couples that we have known just from being in the service itself.
Addie has loved Sunday school as much as we have. Brian taught her the song that Pops used to sing as the family would get ready for Sunday school- "Everybody ought to go to Sunday school......" She sings it throughout the week. The first part of the morning is a more structured and organized class time, while the second part is more of a playtime. When we ask her what she learned in Sunday school, she always answers, "We learned about Jesus!" She then tells us the Bible account that matches the craft she brings home with her.
Tonight is our first time joining our class for a couples get together and we are really looking forward to it. We are so thankful for God's timing in us deciding to join a class (a couple of weeks sooner and we would have missed this class completely), our teachers, and our classmates.
Now I just have to decide on the dessert I'll be bringing.......
Have fun!
